All you MJM fans here, his 6 year fight with Blago has cost him control of his HDems. They are all over the map and his family concern of trying to promote little Lisa is hurting all Dems. He has been down there too long (38 yrs, with 26 in leadership). Like Obama said in 08, Change we can believe in!

I think most would agree that the circumstances this year- the first post-Blagojevich budget, a batch of "reform" bills, a huge deficit- are certainly unusual. However, my perception is that things are much more chaotic and disorganized than they need to be.

Who stands to gain from huge budget cuts? No one. Who stands to gain from reducing state services? No one. Who stands to gain from laying off a few thousand state workers? No one. So why does this seem the direction we are heading?

Quinn has come across as good-hearted but ineffective. Other than the day of his swearing in, Cullerton has yet to make a positive impression. And Madigan has failed to enhance the family name in any way.

Is the problem simply that no one has Blagojevich to kick around anymore? It was easy for everyone to be united against him, but his absence serves to point out the lack of leadership across the board.

Please prove me wrong, folks!

The "R's" stick together & stick it to state workers and citizens. They need to remember who it is that will put feet on the street at election time. Their fellow cacus members don't vote for them.

Normally I would agree with you but this time it is entirely the dems fault. If Madigan was worried about his targets before he just created a whole bunch of new ones. I think he must think he can get them re-elected all by himself.
Anyway, its still early yet. Anything can and probably will happen.

Are those trick questions Dave? Who stands to gain? How about every tax paying citizen of Illinois who will keep more of their hard earned money in their own pockets rather than wasted on an inefficient government that refuses to live within its means. Seems pretty simple to me.

I posted in the last thread abut how we are already losing 40 to 50 percent of our wages to government taxation? How much is too much? What happens when this passes and revenue continues to fall because of a continued deterioration of the economy, business leaving the state, tax avoidance starts to run rampant? Is 8 percent okay? How about 10 percent? When does it end? And nobody seems to talk about the corporate rate hike. Do any of you realize that these taxes are passed right on through to the customer via increased prices? And in addition to that, we will be paying higher sales taxes on the higher prices we will be paying? Again, when does it end? How much is too much?

The choice is government cutting spending or families cutting spending to pay for the higher taxes. All House members who voted against the increase deserve our praise. It time to make cuts in government spending.

And, again, to all of you opposed to the tax hike and in favor of cuts. You have been enjoying a state funded by borrowing. The loans now need to be paid. You got the benefits, so quit complaining and pony up. (Even with huge cuts, the debts still need to be paid, and they are over $50 billion.) The other thing you need to do is go to wonkish.com, prepare your cut budget, and share it with the rest of us. Typing "cut" into a blog is easy, living the talk is not.
