A City of Chicago lawyer was testifying against the eminent domain bill in Judiciary committee at the time of the lightning bolt. It was so loud that it caused a nervous pause before he continued "I didn't know the Mayor was in town today."

...It was a dark stormy night around old Springfield & the old capitol looked especially stark and haunted. Only a small night light in the executive office cast a glow. The faint howling of a lobbyist in the distance could heard & all at once a big bolt of lightning struck, lit up the sky & the faint form could be seen making its way toward the door ....MY God ...could it be , why, it's the governor !!!!
