For the past two years we've been told by one party that we're in a recession. Thanks to their poor handling of Fannie May and Freddie Mac, we now are.

So it is no surprise that poll show a grumpy pessimistic mood.

Will may be a bubble or it may be a long term recession. It will depend on who is elected next month.

I experienced the same thing last weekend, only the young gentleman was handing out Kirk literature, but he wasn't demanding anything. He was reading a sci-fi book, actually.

When I voted on Saturday, I arrived 30 minutes after the polls opened and waited for about an hour. It was uncomfortably hot and the hallway we waited in was dark.

I voted two days ago in Springfield & there was a long line. My wife voted yesterday & said there was a long line then. Noticed people of all ages. 70+ couple behind me said they were voting for Obama. Heard the same kind of comments from others in line. IT'S ALWAYS THE ECONOMY.

I have a silly question!!! Unemployment is high, so why is it when I look in the employment section of the newspaper I see 3-4 pages of jobs that are out there? That just confuses me.

I voted today any the election judge told me that they have had over 3,000 voters, and today there was a long line of people. There were no political signs or people handing out literature.

When I early voted there was a Seals supporter/volunteer/paid person handing voters literature near the door and demanding that we all vote for Dan Seals and "put our racism aside and end the Bush monarchy!" He was a youngish, college aged white type of person.

That certainly didn't go over too well with the small group I walked in with.

Is there any research on who the early voters are? I haven't seen any.

To each his own, but I'd never consider it. I'd be worried about something happening between my vote and election day that would change my mind.

Plus, I take great comfort and joy in ritual. Walking the three blocks to my polling place early on a cool autumn morning is something I look forward to it every time. My poll watchers, extraordinarily pleasant and civil Dems and GOPers, have been a constant since the Lincoln/Douglas race, I believe. They have fresh-baked cookies for the early birds, too.

Neither party does more than lip service on this issue, as there are vested interests in both parties to leave things the way they are now.

Levois, I agree that I don't trust Democrats to improve anything. Sen. Obama says that this election should cause change, and I agree. We can change the government by electing more Republicans. Democrats control the U.S. Senate, U.S. House, IL Senate, and IL House. If IL voters want to change the government, they'll ensure that Republicans regain control of those four houses. If that happens, they'll cut tax rates, cut spending, defend us from terrorists, and discourage illegal aliens.

You know, say what you will about Gov Rod, but he did things for HIS voters.

Really, at the National and even state level a lot of times R's DON'T do much for those who vote for them.

Not much for stay at home Moms. Worse, they try to pump up H1-B quotas who compete for jobs with their voters.

Things happen for a reason.

Huh? Are the people more willing to trust Democrats in this current environment. Nationally things might be different, but in the state I'm not seeing it. Nothing suggests to me that Democrats can be trusted to revitalize the state economy. In a perfect world we shouldn't rely on either party for this kind of deal.
