With Regard to the Mary Mitchell column:

    Ike Carrothers -Q.E.D. ?
  • doubtful · 3 years ago
First Judy has the vastly unpopular President stump for her, now two admitted adulterers, McCain and Giuliani? I'm not sure they'll do much for her with the 'values' crowd.

'. . .now two admitted adulterers, McCain and Giuliani? '

Who Let Al Keyes back in?
  • Rico Shakman aka Wumpus · 3 years ago
I don't know if Judy had the values crowd anyway. What it will do is take some swing voters away from Rod. There are not that many values voters compared to moderates who McCain and Giuliani would appeal to. People who vote soley on values will probaly stay home anyway unless they can hold their noses and voted for Judy...which I doubt.

Oh, I guess I forgot that moral shortcomings are only applicable if the politician's name is followed by a D. I expect more out of my government.

Assuming it doesn't matter to voters (at least some of them) would be foolish, especially with JBT's and Giuliani's positions on things like abortion.

Anyone wonder where Rudy has been lately?
How about helping Ralph Reed who is about to lose a LiteGov primary in GA because he worked for Jack Abramoff.
anyone asking how much of Bushie's trip to Chitown was picked out of the taxpayers pockets and how much came from the take at the funder?
  • Pat Hickey · 3 years ago
Naw, I'm worried that that Goldbrick McCain might waltz off with Hilary Clinton and really setback a fine marriage now that Doubtful ( that really you Al Keyes?) has righted my moral compass.

A nod out to two of the finest female columnists in the City-Mary Mitchell and Carol Marin.

Mary, waxing nostalgic about the lack of black crooks in the Daley administration and remembering the good old days when black folk fixed all the jobs, rigged all the contracts and controlled all the graft.

And Carol, demonstrating her complete lack of knowledge about how the City works by suggesting that Mara Georges was "of distinctly higher rank than any of the four defendants" because she answers directly to Mayor Daley.

Intergovernmental Affairs answered to nobody but the Mayor and Georges's job was to cover for them. Until the federal investigation, IGA could care less about Georges and she did what she was told.

As for Carol patting herself on the back thinking she did a good job exposing corruption, I would suggest that she has been reading her own press releases. It is obvious that she was-and still is clueless about how the City ran. It is also apparent that her opinion is easily manipulated by various administrations.

    Great job gals.

I think Mary Mitchell's column raised some issues that have been ignored.

    Carol Marin, "knock em' dead"!
  • Tom · 3 years ago
Garp, you nailed it on Carol Marin. Mara Georges' primary function is to sit to the mayor's right during budget addresses, and gaze obsequiously at him for the cameras. She certainly wasn't more powerful than IGA.
  • One Man Can Make A Difference · 3 years ago
Garp and Tom, I disagree with the notion that Mara Georges, Mayor Daley's Chief Lawyer was less powerful than the OIGA.

This has been proven to be false.

    1. If she reports directly to the Mayor and the four men who were indicted, prosecuted and found guilty on some accounts didn't report exactly to Daley, then who would be more powerful with complete access to Daley.

    2. If the Mayor has any legal troubles who is he going to contact the OIGA or Mara Georges?

Now who has the most power and closes connections to the Mayor?

    Mara Georges!

By the way, Judge Coar seems to be a very intuitive judge. I think his statement that Mara Georges testimony was incredible is going to hold-up when he's sentencing and I believe that is when Carol Marin's notions about sentencing will take place.

Bottomline, these four men will not get the book thrown at them.

My prediction-probation to 12 months, or home confinement.

So will it be a mistrial for George?

    I believe so.................................

Someone has to answer for the jury misconduct and the judge and the prosecution have ethical duties to not only acknowledge, but address their misconduct. An investigation is appropriate to find out why these jurors purposely disobeyed the judges guidelines to not bring in external material into deliberation.

That is, not withstanding guilt or innocense of Georgeeeeee, to not grant a mistrial would be a miscarriage of justice.
  • Tom · 3 years ago
One Man, I disagree. IGA produced "blessed lists" and controlled thousands of jobs. Mary Jo Falcon testified her predecessor told her that her boss was IGA, with Sorich as the contact. I imagine the same was true with HR heads in other departments. While Georges reports directly to the mayor and has his ear when his admin gets in hot water, she doesn't control patronage, the lifeblood of the mayor's political operation.
  • One Man Can Make A Difference · 3 years ago
Tom, she control legal problems for the Mayor and she knew years ago that the feds allegations could amount to just that, legal problems for her "boss".
  • Reddbyrd · 3 years ago
Once again, Judy Bore's dramatic campaign announced on the Rudy/McCain show draws no chatter. Mut be lonely over there
  • Garp · 3 years ago
    One Man,

Anyone who knows City government knows IGA was omnipotant. Your own statement proves the point. If she knew years ago that the hiring system could lead to legal problems why didn't she end it? The answer is because she couldn't.
