CapitolFax.com: Question of the day

  • Bill Baar · 3 years ago
I'd suggest no peole. Just local birds and wildlife. Just like some other countries do.

Would save us from a lot of fights and the money would look nicer.
  • Anonymous · 3 years ago
I imagine Rod would put himself on the money. It would be a great ad for his re-election campaign!
  • Joe Sixpack · 3 years ago
Since I only know what I see on TV and in the newspapers...

His Holiness Pope Obama I. He's earned his place on currency with the likes of Washington, Lincoln, Jackson, and Jefferson. His stature allows him to print his own money, anyway. Might as well put his own picture on it.

I'd also like to see Blessed Mother Duckworth of Hoffman Estates (soon to be Saint Tammy, once canonized...er elected) on currency too. I hear she's the real deal and not just your run-of-the-mill Illinois political party hack.

Blago on the front, Elvis on the back.
  • Outraged, again · 3 years ago
The late, great Paul Powell. What better tribute to one of our most corrupt officeholders ever.
  • Anon Tax Guy · 3 years ago
Here's a recap of my suggestions from the other day when this was first suggested:

Orville Hodge (State Auditor convicted of embezzlement)

Theodore Isaacs (Revenue Director involved in the race track stock deal along with Kerner)

    Pick a representative lobbyist

Richard Ogilvie - An honest guy who was responsible for the income tax in Illinois.

John Filan on the front of the $1 bill. On the back, a montage of retired teachers, cops, professors, etc. showing their picked pockets.
  • Anonymous · 3 years ago
We could put all our governors who were never indicted on our money. The good thing is that there aren't too many of them, so people won't get confused.

    Keyes on the $3

But we have a quarter of our own -- or is that not worth pointing out?
  • NW burbs · 3 years ago
I agree with Bill -- native flora and fauna...

That could go on the front (a la US currency which has portraits on the front) with some local architecture and/or scenic vistas from throughout the state to grace the reverse.

Instead of E Pluribus Unum, which means "Out of many one," how about Ubi est mea, which means "Where's mine?"
  • anon · 3 years ago
    The picture is irrelevent.
The logo would be: In Madigan we trust.
  • felix · 3 years ago
I agree with Outraged but I'd go further - Paul Powell on the $20, Bill Scott (the resigned Lt. Governor, Otto Kerner, Dan Walker. Let's not forget our great heritage.
  • VanillaMan · 3 years ago
There are so many! So first, lets drop the idea that they have to be elected officals. These people are WAY over exposed, and Illinois is so much more than the bums we elect.

    We can select famous businesspeople
    John Johnson - Johnson Publishing
    John Deere
    Montgomery Ward
    Philip Armour
    Marshall Field
    Richard Sears
    Oprah Winfrey
    Cyrus McCormick

    Great Athletes...
    Walter Payton
    Ernie Banks
    Michael Jordon

Great Musicians - Illinois knows Jazz!
    Benny Goodman
    Miles Davis

    Great Social Leaders...
    Mother Cabrini
    Mortimer Adler
    Jane Addams
    Joseph Smith Jr.
    Dwight Moody

Before the Euro, Germany had artists on the Mark. It was such a nice change from the normal group of elected egomaniacs. Illinois is rich in it's history, we don't need politicians on our money.

Aren't we missing the obvious here? John Boyle gets dibs on the quarter.
  • Irving Park Plaza · 3 years ago
Who needs coins and currency? Illinois could just issue an I-Pass for everyone with a picture of Blago on the front and "Testicular Verility" etched on the back.
  • Coloradem · 3 years ago
Sen. Paul Simon should absoluteley be among the first honored.
  • Scott Cisek · 3 years ago
I am surprised that nobody suggested one of my heros: A. E. Stevenson.

I guess Lincoln is either too obvious, not funny, or disqualified because he's already on the $5 and the penny.
  • Yellow Dog Democrat · 3 years ago
$100 - Abe Lincoln (Illinois' best-known trial lawyer)
$50 - Frank Lloyd Wright (America's greatest architect)
$20 - Jean Baptiste Point du Sable (founder of America's greatest city)
$10 - Mother Jones (the heart of the Labor movement)
    $5 - The Blues Brothers
$1 - Wild Bill Hickok (Dollar Bill, get it?)
$1 coin - Rachel Welch (So long, Susan B., Hello!)
.50 - Kanye West ( in your face, 50 cent)
    .25 - Enrico Fermi
    .10 - Ernest Hemmingway
    .05 - Chief Black Hawk
    .01 - eliminate it.

Anton Cermak, Edward Coles, Amos Throop, Abraham Lincoln, Jane Addams, the Great Migration. I'd also agree on the Haymarket martyrs.

Why not a tribute to some of our homegrown comedians-Jack Benny, Sam Kinnison, Richard Pryor. And don't forget as the State slogan
    "Pay to Play".
  • Papa Legba · 3 years ago
Great question. I'm not sure who or what we would put on the money, but I'm sure all currency will get one change. Instead of "In God we trust" it will be made to read "In Rod we trust."

It will only be usable in Illnois by the way. To help balance the budget.
  • Lloyd Dobbler · 3 years ago
In the tradition of Illinois... the money rights should be sold to the highest bidder!
  • Lloyd Dobbler · 3 years ago
But politicians should be: Lincoln, Adlai and Paul Simon.
