If my civics lessons serve me correctly, this sets the stage for a primary for the Senate seat, provided that Harris doesn't move over to the Senate, which I can't see him doing.

Does anybody know what Carol got?
  • cool hand · 2 years ago
there's a heavy concentration of asian americans in that district, too.
  • GoBearsss · 2 years ago
    Who is Brendan O'Connor?
  • Rich Miller · 2 years ago
    He's with the state's attorney's office and a 40th Ward captain.
  • GoBearsss · 2 years ago
Same Brendan O'Connor that previously ran for metropolitan water reclamation district?
  • Anonymous · 2 years ago
    yep

Question: "Does anyone know what Carol got?"

    Answer: A much bigger pension.
  • Anon · 2 years ago
Good work, Carol. The Senate will miss you, as will we all.
  • GettingJonesed · 2 years ago
So the Ronen seat sits empty for a year? That seems a little "take my ball and go homish" doesn't
  • Rich Miller · 2 years ago
It'll be empty from Jan. 7th until the committeemen make an appointment within 30 days of that date.

Does this silence Blago's #2 cheerleader in the Senate?
  • Rob · 2 years ago
#2 Cheerleader? She was his floor leader and closest ally. That's why she wants Heather Steans, an unknown in the district who's given tens of thousands to Blago. Pad her pension with a sweet executive position and protect her guv with an easy ally. Steans husband is a lobster so that should be interesting. I suppose Carol's #2 only if you call Jones #1..
  • GettingJonesed · 2 years ago
So Ms Stearns will run on the platform "I'm as big a Blaggo hack as Sen. Ronen"
    That will be catchy
  • capitol view · 2 years ago
I wonder why she wants to keep her Committeeman seat if she plans on taking an executive branch position with the Blagojevich Administration. I'm trying to remember another such move where the political Committeeman role was retained while Executive Branch employment was begun.

It may happen all the time and I just haven't noticed...
  • Rob · 2 years ago
In all fairness, I live in Ronen's district and she's as crazy liberal as the rest of us who live there. Her progressive voice will be missed.
  • Larry McKeon · 2 years ago
Many of Senator Ronen's constituents should be very dissapointed if Representative Harris or one of many highly qualified members of the Gay and Lesbian community are not seriously considered as a replacement.

One "out" member of the community serving in the Senate would be a great improvement over two in the "closet."

O'Connor would be a good candidate plus he has nothing to lose, he should run against Steans. Making lots of contributions leaves fingerprints, shouldn't be hard for him to find something to whack her with.
  • Rich Miller · 2 years ago
That takes lots of dough. I'm not sure he can raise all that he'll need. She could flood him, literally.
  • publius · 2 years ago
carol is smart tough and committed---and you will find her new job giving her much more clout in the public service of illinois
  • The Straight Story · 2 years ago
she wants Heather Steans, an unknown in the district who’s given tens of thousands to Blago.

Tens of thousands? Try more than $180,000 to Rod in the last five years. Almost $90,000 to Emil. Nearly $30,000 to Ronen. In all, over $600,000 in contributions to state officials from 01-06.

And that's not even counting a nice chunk of change this spring to the Rod front group that ran TV ads touting the GRT!

Pay to play indeed: This one stinks to high heaven. Hopefully somebody starts blowing the lid off it in the mainstream press.

Larry, why do you care if Harris isn't appointed to Ronen's seat? He can stay in the House. Does a Senate seat carry greater prestige?
  • Rich Miller · 2 years ago
LAFEO, I think you're seeing a bit of hardball in action. Larry, we're good pals, but please don't out anybody here. Thanks.
  • Getting interesting · 2 years ago
    Wow, that was close Larry!

BTW, odds are that Harris doesn't even want to go to the Senate, which makes things MUCH easier for Carol. Because she would have sided with the $$$ over the gay community in a heartbeat.

And as for Carol's 'progressive voice', are you KIDDING? She's been the biggest sellout hack out of all of them since day one of the Blago regime.
  • Yellow Dog Democrat · 2 years ago
Just two in the closet? I think Larry's lowballing.
