Very happy to see that Jerry Hurckes got beat in Oak Lawn. I'm sure if I said what I really thought of Hurckes, I'd get banned.

I was suppose to be helping out on election day in the southwest suburbs dragging voters out of their homes to the polls. But opening day got switched and I opted for the game. My guess is there were quite of few who skipped their public service responsibilities because of the game change.

Lockport's mayoral race stands at a 5 vote difference with absentee and provisional balots remaining.
Voters that went to the polls in many towns seem to have said they were fed up with the way their town, school board, etc. were being run.

A possible coin-toss for mayor in Mettawa situation landed us on the front page of the Herald today-- rather funny, since most of the people who moved to Mettawa liked the fact that no one had ever heard of it.

I didn't see anything on google map between I-94 and Milwaukee Ave. except 2 golf courses. Will they hold the coin flip on the 18th hole?

I voted in Oak Lawn (Worth Township), and went to opening day. I guess I cancelled myself out.

I am hard on Russ Stewart because of his uncanny gift of getting election predictions wrong. Once again, he wrote to large articles predicting a win for Frimark in Park Ridge.
Anyone who did any observation of this race knew the incumbent was history. Either by viewing the tons of lawn signs for his opponent or by talking to any residents-they were fed up with their Mayor.
I respect his willingness to state his case but I really wonder where he gets his info.

The Hurkes defeat was not a cliff-hanger, but a virtual 2-1 mandate for both he and his entire slate.
Maybe playing football is what toughened him up as a kid, but I am sure he never anticipated running for Mayor when he was younger, otherwise I would have to believe that Mr. Schwantz would have given some more thought to changing his name. I have to believe that the current and future election sloganry for (and against) this guy could go down in the Comedy Central Hall of Fame.

The 1% sales tax for school facilities failed in our county, even though the proceeds would have abated property taxes while spreading the burden to visitors who don't live here. I wonder sometimes about the intelligence of the electorate.

Little Highwood, IL in Lake County just elected it's first Latino Alderman, my buddy and fellow GOP precinct committeeman, Quintin Sepulveda. The entire old guard running the town got swept out of office after some huge tax increases.

Speaking of I-80, the City of Peru will have a new mayor for the first time in FORTY FOUR years. Mayor Baker was voted out mostly because of a local blog 'Change for Peru'. A lot of effort from the blogger with many comments made a difference.

Nick Blaise may be gone, but his machine lives on in Niles. The party faithful elected a former felon as trustee despite the fact that he is ineligible to hold office unless he receives a pardon.

Aurora Township- Supervisor-elect was taken to hearings 3 times, taken to court 3 times, eventually kicked off the ballot, re-slated by a group of committeemen when the group was stacked against her by an opponants relatives, and in 3 weeks was able to win!
